Update

The greens were spiked and rolled on Wednesday prior to the application of a wetting agent (Neptune).  The greens were then deeply watered Wednesday night in order to move the wetting agent throughout the root zone.  The goal is to provide more uniform soil moisture throughout the greens.  Turf with uniform soil moisture requires less water (and hand watering) and has fewer localized dry spots (LDS) compared to turf with variable soil moisture.  The use of wetting agents on greens allows us to provide more consistent putting conditions, while reducing the amount of irrigation water used.

We experimented with Axis, a diatomaceous earth product this week.  We hand aerated notorious localized dry spots (LDS) in the approaches on holes 5 and 6.  Then, we cleaned up the cores and filled the holes with Axis.  Hopefully,  removing the hydrophobic soil, and replacing it with diatomaceous earth will allow these areas to hold more water and reduce the occurrence of LDS.
